School Board Resolution Honoring Nicole Wetzel

Dear Global Village Academy North Families,

The Board of Directors of Global Village Academy North proudly recognizes and honors Nicole Wetzel for her 14 years of exceptional service and leadership within the GVA North community.

Nicole began her journey with GVA North in July 2011 as an English Literacy Teacher. In 2013, she became Dean of Students and continued to grow within the organization, serving as Principal from June 2015 to June 2023. During this time, she also took on additional responsibilities as the school’s Gifted and Talented Coordinator, further demonstrating her dedication to meeting the diverse needs of GVA North students. In her eight years as Principal, Nicole led with integrity, compassion, and a commitment to excellence, playing a pivotal role in establishing a strong school culture and in the successful transition to a permanent school facility.

In June 2023, Nicole transitioned into the role of Head of School, a move designed to support the leadership transition of Chelsea Byrd into the Principal position. Her mentorship and strategic guidance during this period have been essential to ensuring continuity, growth, and stability within the school.

At the May 22, 2024 GVA Collaborative Board Meeting, it was shared that Nicole would continue in a part-time capacity as Head of School at GVA North while also taking on the role of Assistant Director/Chief of Staff for the Global Village Academy Collaborative. This dual role allowed Nicole to remain engaged with the GVA North community while beginning to support broader leadership efforts across the GVA network.

Beginning with the new school year, Nicole will transition fully into the Chief of Staff role. In this position, she will support the leaders at all three Global Village Academy campuses — North, Aurora, and Douglas County. Working closely with the GVAC team, she will lead school improvement initiatives and help deliver high-impact services to support students and staff across the network. GVA North staff and families will still see Nicole regularly on campus, while the Aurora and Douglas County communities will benefit from her increased collaboration and presence.

The Board expresses its heartfelt gratitude for Nicole’s remarkable leadership, unwavering service, and ongoing dedication to the mission of Global Village Academy. We celebrate her accomplishments and look forward to the continued impact of her leadership in this exciting new chapter, knowing that her leadership will continue to benefit the entire GVA community.

Best regards,

John Hawthorne
