Your First 26-27 Message From the Principal

hope you are enjoying a restful and fun-filled summer! While our students soak up these final weeks of break, our team has been busy preparing for what is shaping up to be an exciting 2026–2027 school year. As we get closer to the start of school, I wanted to share a few important updates and reminders.

New Personal Electronic Devices Policy

In late April, we invited families to share feedback through a survey regarding student use of personal electronic devices during the school day. Based on that feedback, our School Accountability Committee updated our Student Use of Cell Phones and Other Personal Electronic Devices Policy, which was approved by the GVA North Board of Directors.

Beginning this school year, all personal electronic devices (including smart watches, cell phones, tablets, gaming devices, etc.) must be turned off or on silent and kept out of sight during the school day. Devices may not be used at any time from the first bell until dismissal, including during passing periods, lunch, or recess.

Our goal is to create an environment where students are fully engaged in learning, build strong relationships with peers and teachers, and minimize distractions throughout the day.

If you need to get a message to your child during the school day, please contact the front office and we will ensure it is delivered. Likewise, students may contact families through the front office if needed.

Policy Violations:

  • First Violation: Verbal reminder and device confiscated for the remainder of the day (returned at dismissal)
  • Second Violation: Device confiscated, turned in to administration, and parent/guardian notified (returned at end of day)
  • Third Violation: Device confiscated; parent/guardian must pick it up
  • Fourth Violation: Considered disruptive behavior and may result in suspension (in-school or out-of-school)
  • Subsequent Violations: May result in escalating consequences, including additional suspension and/or loss of the privilege to bring a device to school

Construction Update

Our building has been busy this summer! We have been working hard to adjust spaces to better support our growing enrollment. This includes adding three additional classrooms by restructuring existing spaces, along with creating several new office areas. We are excited for you to see the updates and a big thank you to Mr. Eric for his support in helping ensure everything is running smoothly!

Meet the Teacher

Please mark your calendars for our annual Meet the Teacher event on August 7th. This is a great opportunity to meet your child’s teacher and visit their classroom. You will receive an email from your child’s teacher on the morning of August 7th with classroom details.

We will also have informational tables available to support families with questions about Village Square, clubs, Encore, Free & Reduced Lunch, PTO volunteering, and more. GVA gear (t-shirts, hoodies, etc.) will also be available in the gym.

To help manage crowd size, we ask families to attend during their assigned time if possible:

August 7th, 2026 | 1:00 PM – 5:00 PM

  • 1:00–2:00 PM: Last names A–F
  • 2:00–3:00 PM: Last names G–L
  • 3:00–4:00 PM: Last names M–R
  • 4:00–5:00 PM: Last names S–Z

If you are unable to attend, no worries. The upcoming newsletters will include all important back-to-school information.

Change of Plans

If your family’s plans have changed and your child will not be attending GVA North this school year, please let us know as soon as possible. This helps us finalize class rosters and staffing to ensure a smooth start for all students.

Thank you for being a valued part of our GVA North community. Your continued partnership and support mean so much, and we are looking forward to welcoming both familiar and new faces soon.

Here’s to a fantastic 2026–2027 school year—GO PUMAS!
