September is School Attendance Awareness Month

At GVA North, we believe consistent attendance is essential to both academic and social success. Research shows that students who are chronically absent, missing 10% or more of the school year (18+ days) are less likely to read proficiently by third grade, succeed in middle school, or graduate from high school. By 6th grade, chronic absenteeism becomes a leading indicator of future dropout risk. For these reasons, we ask that students attend school every day unless they are ill or there is an emergency.

Punctuality also matters. Supervision begins at 7:35 AM, doors open at 7:45 AM, and the school day begins at 8:00 AM. Students arriving after 8:05 AM are marked tardy. Even missing small amounts of instructional time adds up, so arriving on time each day is critical.
