Welcome back to STEM!  I cannot wait for us all to learn and have fun this year.

In the first few weeks, we will learn and practice procedures, rules, and expectations.

We will also practice being good scientists!

  • Making observations, following instructions, working as a team, and using your five senses are all important skills for us to succeed throughout the year.

Bathroom Procedures

  • One student is allowed out of the room at a time to use the bathroom during STEM.

3 Class Rules

  • Be respectful, be responsible, be ready to learn!

Art with Ms. Bradford

Welcome to another colorful school year!

This year, students will journey around the world and create art projects inspired by other cultures.

However, before our travels begin students will be reviewing art room procedures and expectations.

Before diving into big projects, students always create a portfolio cover that will house their artwork throughout the year.

  • As a reminder, students do not bring artwork home until the end of the semester.
  • This allows students to finish projects if they missed a class and also helps me track their progress throughout the school year.

Time permitting, some grades may begin working on their Global Art Passports, these will take the place of sketchbooks this year.

Don't forget to check out our website as I will start posting updates here soon!

PE with Coach Cat

[email protected]

Hello, I am the new PE Teacher, Coach Cat! I am so happy to be a part of the GVA team this year! We are going to have an amazing year.

For the first couple of weeks, we will review my procedures in and outside the classroom. Our first unit will be a soccer unit.

I want to make sure all students can participate, and I need them in the correct shoes for that to happen.

  • For example, any closed-toe tennis/athletic shoes will do.
  • Crocs will not be acceptable for PE class.
  • If the students would like to bring an extra pair of shoes to change into for class, then that is fine with me.
  • If students do not have the right shoes on for PE, then they will not be able to participate in the lesson for the day. This is for the students' safety.

3 Classroom Rules
be RESPECTFUL, be RESPONSIBLE, be READY TO LEARN

Bathroom Procedures

  • One student is allowed in the bathroom at a time.
  • Students will take the bathroom pass when they go to the bathroom.
  • This shows me if there is a student in the bathroom.
  • When the pass is not in class, I know not to send another student to the bathroom until the pass is back in the classroom.

SEL with Ms. Renee

[email protected]

I am so happy to be back in school! This year SEL looks very different. I will be “pushing in” to classrooms this year instead of having students come to my classroom. GVA needed to hire an additional teacher, so we needed the classroom. So far, the students are doing great learning the new routine!

Kindergarten-2nd Grade

  • We will begin SEL this year with an introduction to our Munchy & Jumpy stories.
  • The students really enjoy these sweet stories about twin bunnies who have a special power to do a “Double Day” in order to correct their mistakes.

3rd-5th Grade

Upper Elementary students will learn about the two pledges that we make each morning; The Pledge of Allegiance and the Student Pledge.

  • Discussion centers on making and keeping promises, the meaning of honor in words and actions, and respecting others who are different.

Students are excited to learn about the Self-Care Fair, coming to GVA on September 16th, 2023, from 1:00-4:00 PM.

  • The event allows students to sample healthy, screen-free activities such as tai-chi, yo-yo, art, and more.
  • We will have therapy animals, food trucks, crafts, and speakers on mental health topics.
  • Those who complete their Passport and stay for the group meditation at the end of the event have a chance to win a large gift basket full of self-care items.

I look forward to seeing you there!

Mr. H’s Music Notes

[email protected]

Welcome Back to Music!! We are going to have a great year.

We will learn or review classroom procedures and rules during the first week.

All procedures and rules are based on the “Three R’s”

Respect

  • For the adults in the Music Room, the other students in the Music Room, and the equipment in the Music Room.

Responsible

  • For your words and actions.

Ready to Learn

The Restroom Policy is the same as last year.

  • Every student has the opportunity to use the restroom and to get water before they enter the Music Room.
  • If you need to use the Restroom during class, you may, but only in an emergency.
  • If you need more water than a drink from the fountain before class, please bring a water bottle to class.

Also, we have Concert Band during ENCORE on Tuesdays.

If you have any questions, please email me. I do my best to respond within 24 hours of receiving an email. If you need to speak to me, please send me your number and a list of times when it would be good for us to talk.

I am looking forward to working with your children this year!
