Over the remainder of the school year, we will focus on each of our ideals highlighting its importance and remind students of our behavior matrix. We will review what the ideal looks and sounds like throughout our school, and encourage our students to embrace the values that define us as a community.
As a reminder, our “PUMAS” ideals are:
- Proud: Taking pride in ourselves, our work, and our school.
- Understanding: Showing empathy and respect for others’ perspectives.
- Motivated: Striving for excellence and always doing our best.
- Accountable: Taking responsibility for our actions and learning.
- Safe: Ensuring a safe and supportive environment for everyone.
We always focus on our ideals and how they each play a part into being “PUMAS”. However, this year, we decided to take things a step further and dive deeper into each ideal and spend some more time on what each one specifically means.
At GVA North, our top priority is that every child feels safe coming to school and is making safe choices in and out of the classroom. At our core, we believe that students must feel safe in order to learn. Because of this, we have decided to start with the end in mind and make SAFE our first “PUMAS” ideal focus.

Como parte de nuestro compromiso continuo de fomentar una cultura escolar positiva, nos complace anunciar un enfoque en toda la escuela sobre nuestros ideales PUMAS. Durante el resto del año escolar, nos centraremos en cada uno de nuestros ideales, destacando su importancia y recordando a los estudiantes nuestra matriz de comportamiento. Siempre nos centramos en nuestros ideales y en cómo cada uno de ellos desempeña un papel en ser “PUMAS”. Sin embargo, este año, decidimos dar un paso más y profundizar en cada ideal y dedicar más tiempo a lo que significa cada uno específicamente.
En GVA North, nuestra principal prioridad es que todos los niños se sientan seguros al venir a la escuela y tomen decisiones seguras dentro y fuera del salón de clase. Creemos que los alumnos deben sentirse seguros para poder aprender. Por ello, hemos decidido empezar por el final y hacer de la SEGURIDAD nuestro primer objetivo ideal de “PUMAS”.

Why “SAFE” Matters
Our goal is to create an environment where all students not only understand the importance of physical safety, but also emotional and social safety. It’s essential that every student feels secure, valued, and respected by their peers and staff, and that they can extend that same sense of security and respect to others. This is critical to building a positive school culture where everyone can thrive.
How We’re Introducing the “SAFE” Value
From October to November, we will be emphasizing the value of “Being Safe” across all areas of our school. This will involve reteaching our students what safety looks like and sounds like in various settings, including classrooms, hallways, and the playground throughout different school activities. Our goal is to empower students with the knowledge and habits that ensure we are all safe daily. Keep an eye out for some “Safety Tips” in future newsletters as well!
How You Can Support at Home
Ask your child about our ideals and how they can show they are PUMA PROUD in different scenarios. We believe that with your continued support at home, we truly solidify these ideals within every student’s character and ensure they become part of their everyday lives. Here are some other ways you can help:
- Model safe behaviors: Whether it’s online safety, road safety, or respecting others' personal space, children learn a lot by observing how we act.
- Reinforce school rules: Encourage your child to follow the safety rules in place at school, reminding them that safety comes first.
These PUMAS ideals are the foundation of everything we do, and by working together, we can ensure that everyone in our school community feels supported, respected, and empowered.

Por qué es importante la seguridad “SAFE”
Nuestro objetivo es crear un entorno en el que todos los estudiantes no solo comprendan la importancia de la seguridad física, sino también de la seguridad emocional y social. Es esencial que cada estudiante se sienta seguro, valorado y respetado por sus compañeros y el personal, y que pueda transmitir esa misma sensación de seguridad y respeto a los demás. Esto es fundamental para crear una cultura escolar positiva en la que todos puedan prosperar.
Cómo introducimos el valor de la seguridad “SAFE”
De octubre a noviembre, enfatizaremos el valor de “estar seguro” en todas las áreas de nuestra escuela. Esto implicará volver a enseñarles a nuestros estudiantes cómo se ve y cómo suena la seguridad en varios entornos, incluidos los salones de clase, los pasillos y el área de juegos durante diferentes actividades escolares. Creemos que con su continuo apoyo en casa, realmente solidificamos estos ideales dentro del carácter de cada estudiante y nos aseguramos de que se conviertan en parte de su vida cotidiana. Aquí hay algunas otras formas en las que puede ayudar:
- Modele comportamientos seguros: ya sea seguridad en línea, seguridad vial o respeto al espacio personal de los demás, los niños aprenden mucho observando cómo actuamos.
- Refuerce las reglas escolares: anime a su hijo a seguir las reglas de seguridad establecidas en la escuela, recordándole que la seguridad es lo primero.
