We had a fantastic time last Friday celebrating 100 days of school! The spirit day costumes were so creative, and it was wonderful to see the excitement from our students. Over the past 100 days, we’ve seen incredible growth not only in academics but also in the social skills and confidence of our PUMAS.
We are so proud of everything they’ve accomplished so far!
New Visitor Check-In System
Starting on Wednesday, February 12th, we will begin using a new system to check any visitors into the building. We will start using the Raptor Visitor Management System in our school to strengthen the safety of our campus for students and faculty. Part of keeping students and faculty safe is knowing who is in our buildings at all times, and the Raptor system will allow us to do that by tracking visitors, contractors, and volunteers.
Moving forward, all visitors will scan their ID or manually enter it into the system on the new iPads in the front lobby when they enter the building at the front entrance. If a parent or guardian does not have a state-issued ID, a school staff member can ask to see another form of identification and manually enter the person’s name into the Raptor system. The Raptor system only checks the visitor's name and date of birth for comparison with a national database of registered sex offenders. No other data from the ID is gathered or recorded. The system is not connected to any other databases such as the Department of Motor Vehicles, and information is not shared with any outside agencies. Once entry is approved, Raptor will issue a badge that identifies the visitor, the date, and the purpose of his/her visit.
A visitor’s badge will not be necessary for those who visit GVA to simply drop off an item in the office or pick up paperwork. However, if you want to enter the school building past the front lobby, this check-in system will be required. If a person does not have identification, he/she can still be given access to the building but will need to be escorted by a school staff member.
Please note: Volunteers that work with students potentially alone or attending field trips will STILL need to have a background check completed separately from the Raptor System check.

Welcome Campus Security Officer: Eric Knierim
As some of you may have noticed, Officer Ken McCallister is no longer with GVA North. We were advised by security personnel to hold off on informing parents of his departure until we had a replacement solidified due to safety precautions. I have been actively interviewing candidates over the past month and am excited to introduce Eric Knierim who will be our new armed campus security officer.
Eric brings a wealth of experience with over 8 years in the military working as a security forces supervisor, military dog trainer, and security specialist. He recently just completed his certifications to become a Nationally Recognized Emergency Medical Technician.
Officer Knierim will be around campus this week so if you see him, please introduce yourself and say hello. Please help us in giving him a warm welcome to the PUMA family!

¡Tuvimos un tiempo fantástico el viernes pasado celebrando los 100 días de escuela! Los disfraces del día de espíritu fueron tan creativos, y fue maravilloso ver la emoción de nuestros estudiantes. En estos últimos 100 días, hemos visto un crecimiento increíble no solo en lo académico, sino también en las habilidades sociales y la confianza de nuestros PUMAS. ¡Estamos muy orgullosos de todo lo que han logrado hasta ahora!
Nuevo Sistema de Registro de Visitantes
A partir del miércoles 12 de febrero, comenzaremos a usar un nuevo sistema para registrar a los visitantes en el edificio. Empezaremos a usar el Sistema de Gestión de Visitantes Raptor en nuestra escuela para fortalecer la seguridad de nuestro campus para los estudiantes y el personal. Parte de mantener la seguridad de estudiantes y personal es saber quién está en nuestros edificios en todo momento, y el sistema Raptor nos permitirá hacer eso, rastreando a los visitantes, contratistas y voluntarios.
De ahora en adelante, todos los visitantes deberán escanear su identificación o ingresarla manualmente en el sistema en los nuevos iPads del vestíbulo principal cuando ingresen al edificio por la entrada principal. Si un padre o tutor no tiene una identificación emitida por el estado, un miembro del personal de la escuela puede pedirle ver otra forma de identificación e ingresar manualmente el nombre de la persona en el sistema Raptor. El sistema Raptor solo verifica el nombre y la fecha de nacimiento del visitante para compararlos con una base de datos nacional de delincuentes sexuales registrados. No se recopila ni se registra ningún otro dato de la identificación. El sistema no está conectado a ninguna otra base de datos, como el Departamento de Vehículos Motorizados, y la información no se comparte con agencias externas. Una vez que se apruebe la entrada, Raptor emitirá una insignia que identifica al visitante, la fecha y el propósito de su visita.
La insignia de visitante no será necesaria para aquellos que visiten GVA solo para dejar un artículo en la oficina o recoger documentación. Sin embargo, si desea ingresar al edificio de la escuela más allá del vestíbulo principal, este sistema de registro será obligatorio. Si una persona no tiene identificación, aún podrá acceder al edificio, pero deberá ser escoltado por un miembro del personal de la escuela.
Tenga en cuenta: los voluntarios que trabajen con estudiantes potencialmente solos o que asistan a excursiones escolares DEBERÁN completar un chequeo de antecedentes por separado del registro en el sistema Raptor.

Bienvenido Oficial de Seguridad del Campus: Eric Knierim
Como algunos de ustedes habrán notado, el Oficial Ken McCallister ya no está en GVA North. El personal de seguridad nos aconsejó esperar para informar a los padres sobre su partida hasta que tuviéramos un reemplazo confirmado por precauciones de seguridad. He estado entrevistando candidatos activamente durante el último mes y estoy emocionado de presentar a Eric Knierim, quien será nuestro nuevo oficial de seguridad armado en el campus.
Eric trae una gran experiencia con más de 8 años en el ejército trabajando como supervisor de fuerzas de seguridad, entrenador de perros militares y especialista en seguridad. Recientemente, completó sus certificaciones para convertirse en Técnico Médico de Emergencia Nacionalmente Reconocido.
El Oficial Knierim estará en el campus esta semana, así que si lo ve, por favor, preséntese y salúdalo. ¡Por favor, ayúdenos a darle una cálida bienvenida a la familia PUMA!
