GVA North Dress Code

At Global Village Academy North (GVA-N), we are committed to providing a safe, inclusive, and academically focused environment for all students. A simplified, distraction-free dress code supports a positive school culture where students can focus on learning. Our dress code is designed to be affordable, inclusive, and easy to follow. This is not intended to burden any family, and arrangements have been made to assist those in need. Our goal is to work collaboratively with families to ensure understanding and consistency, while keeping students focused on academic success.

When a student is not in compliance with the dress code, the following steps may be taken, depending on the frequency and severity of the violation:

  • A verbal warning may be issued.
  • The school may contact guardians to better understand any barriers to compliance or to inform them of the concern.
  • The school may ask the student to change into a gently used dress code approved item provided by GVA North.
  • Detentions may be assigned for repeated violations. Students may also become ineligible for certain extracurricular activities such as reward days, dances, and other non-academic events.
  • In cases of continued non-compliance, further disciplinary action, including potential suspension, may be considered.

Free Dress Fridays

At GVA North, every Friday is a Free Dress Day, during which students may wear clothing of their choice, as long as it remains school-appropriate:

  • No midriff-exposing tops or excessively short skirts/shorts
  • No clothing with inappropriate images, language, or messaging
  • Clothes should not interfere with the educational process or interrupt learning
  • Students who violate Free Dress expectations may lose this privilege

Graduation Attire

While students are free to wear objects of cultural or religious significance during commencement, they are prohibited from wearing or displaying an adornment that is likely to cause substantial disruption of or material interference with a graduation ceremony. The prohibition must be the least restrictive means necessary and must be based on evidence of disruption.
