Seal of Biliteracy
Seal of Biliteracy and Junior Seal of Biliteracy Awards
The GVA Seal of Biliteracy Award and the Jr. Seal of Biliteracy Award are given to students who demonstrate their attainment of a specified level of biliteracy. Students must portray perseverance and dedication to bilingualism, biliteracy, and socio-cultural competence.
To achieve these awards, students must complete:
- Attendance at cultural events
- Give an oral presentation on bilingualism in various careers in their target language.
- Write an essay about the importance of bilingualism
- Complete 10 hours of community service in an environment that utilizes their target language
- Maintain satisfactory grades and scores on the CMAS, I-Ready, and STAMP tests.
The GVA Pathway Award and Junior Pathway Award are given to students who are on the path to biliteracy and have completed the mandatory requirements above but may not have achieved the necessary scores on the CMAS, i-Ready, and/or STAMP Tests.
At the end of the 2023 - 2024 School year, 5th and 8th grade students achieved the following:
5th Grade
- 18 students achieved the Jr. Seal of Biliteracy
- 9 students achieved the Pathway Award.
8th Grade
- 26 students achieved the Seal of Biliteracy
- 10 students achieved the Pathway Award.
